The Story of Powertex

The story of Powertex began as the vision of Belgian artist and entrepreneur Brigitte Grade, whose lifelong passion for creativity and innovation has inspired artists and crafters across the globe.

Brigitte Grade

Born on 31st December 1959 in Heist-op-den-Berg, Belgium, Brigitte was surrounded by entrepreneurship from an early age, with parents who owned their own business.

Her natural inclination towards art led her to the prestigious Art Academy in Antwerp, where she graduated in 1981 as a graphic designer. The following year, she earned her teaching certificate in Mechelen, setting the stage for a career that would span both education and artistry.

Brigitte’s early career saw her teaching painting and drawing at various institutions, including the Academy of Heist-op-den-Berg and the teacher training programme in expressive arts at Group T Leuven.

Later, she worked as an Artistic Director at an advertising agency and as a medical representative for a multinational company, gaining invaluable experience across diverse industries.

In 1992, Brigitte embraced her calling as an independent artist, travelling the world to exhibit and sell her work. Known for her evocative paintings of eyes, horses, and portraits, she earned recognition both in Belgium and internationally, creating pieces for prestigious collections like the Pinacothea in Vieste, Italy.

As her art career flourished, Powertex sparked a revolution in her creative journey.

Powertex is a versatile, water-based, non-toxic, vegan and environmentally friendly medium that transforms fabric and other materials into hardened sculptures. Brigitte’s  innovative spirit led her to develop new techniques, materials and applications for Powertex, and she quickly realised its potential to awaken creativity in others.

Collaborating with Paul Vens

In 2006, Brigitte met Paul Vens, the man who would become her husband and collaborator. Together with her daughter Ester, who contributes to both creative and logistical operations,

Brigitte began building Powertex into an international phenomenon. She travelled the globe to teach workshops, train Certified Powertex Tutors and introduce her visionary products to an ever-growing community of artists and hobbyists.

The story of Powertex

Brigitte’s dedication to developing Powertex has made her a true trailblazer in the art and crafting world. She has written books, contributed to magazines and designed countless models, sharing her techniques and inspiring a worldwide audience.

Her mission is simple but powerful: to give people the tools to explore their creativity and discover the artist within.

Today, Powertex is a global brand with a passionate following, thanks to Brigitte’s tireless innovation and commitment.

Her legacy lives on through the International Distributors across all continents, and the artists and crafters who continue to push the boundaries of what’s possible with Powertex, creating art that is as unique and transformative as the medium itself.
